Signs that anxiety is taking over your life

Anxiety is an emotion; it is what we feel when we are more than just nervous and is an emotion that we all feel at some point… but, how do you really know when anxiety is becoming much more than just an emotion?

Anxiety disorder is one of the most common mental illnesses yet manifests itself differently in every single person meaning that there are many signs that anxiety is taking over your life.


The sooner that you recognise anxiety, the less of a chance it has of taking over your life and causing more harm.


So, let’s recognise the signs of anxiety taking over your life:

  • Lack of sleep or sleeping too much

  • Long-term tightness in your chest

  • Nausea

  • Difficulty breathing

  • Feeling of a lump in your throat (like a pill is stuck)

  • Irregular heartbeat

  • Headaches

  • Muscular and joint aches

  • Frequently needing the toilet

  • IBS

  • Sweating more than usual

  • Pins and needles

  • Picking at your skin

  • Pulling your hair out

  • Restlessness

  • Frequent flu-like symptoms

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Memory loss

  • Distancing yourself from others

  • Changes in sex-drive

  • Feeling hopeless

  • Fatigue

  • Irritability
