Physical Signs of Stress | Stress Awareness Month

Stress is most often linked to mental and emotional factors, but what is often not talked about is the physical strain that stress can have on a person.

There are many symptoms and signs that appear on and within the physical body and when a person faces long-term stress, the symptoms can become even more severe.


When stress arises, the body goes into fight or flight mode and does what it can to protect itself.


Here are some physical symptoms that can appear:

  • Acne

  • Difficulty breathing

  • Lump sensation in the throat

  • Muscle aches

  • Headaches

  • IBS

  • Nausea

  • Weight gain or weight loss

  • Sweating

  • Changes to your period

  • Sleep problems

  • Fatigue

  • Distorted eye sight or soreness in the eyes

  • High blood pressure

  • Dizziness

  • Low immunity

  • Hair loss

  • Skin problems (eczema, psoriasis, etc)

  • Sweating more than usual

  • Stiffness

If you feel like you may be experiencing physical symptoms of stress, it may be a good idea to speak to someone.
